'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith resumes battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he remembers the nail-biting closing stages of Swansea's stunning fightback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The game culminated with Galbraith briefly donning a fan's glasses amid the on-field celebration.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith cracked the upright with a long-range shot from distance, and the defender immediately converted the loose ball before sprinting toward the East Stand to revel in the moment, with fans swarming the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The result capped an incredible comeback given Swansea had trailed 2-0 deep into the latter period. In the euphoria, there was some collateral damage. Galbraith explained, "There was a fan sort of calling out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're humans, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

The result earned a upcoming game at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a team Galbraith pushed hard at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with his former club in February. He had a prime vantage point when the underdogs took the lead in spectacular fashion, with a teammate's first-time shot from about long distance going in via the crossbar and the Stefan Ortega. Many argued that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've awarded it to him for taking the effort on from that range," commented Galbraith, who started in midfield before shifting to right defensive wing after they changed formation. That meant competing with the England international, with whom he swapped shirts, and the attacker was among the City players who complimented the way the underdogs approached the match.

City's Quality

"Athletically they are outstanding but even the simple things and simple things, they can just perform consistently," the midfielder notes. "It seems as if they never miss a pass and they are adept at dictate and take the sting out of a game. You can think you're doing well and then suddenly they will just deliver a through ball between defenders without you even spotting it. You have to be focused throughout of the game. It requires a resilient mindset and concentration just to keep pace."

New Chapter

Swansea pushed to sign Galbraith in January and secured his signature to secure him in the summer in a significant move. He made a name as a crowd pleaser across multiple campaigns at Orient and has swiftly achieved similar status in his new home. At his previous team he linked up again with the coach, who earlier gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in professional games on loan at a League One side from Old Trafford. Then came a spell at lower division Salford City, before he moved on from Old Trafford.

Growth Journey

"I was perhaps a bit naive going into men's football. I think many athletes would say under-23s football is completely distinct. Sometimes it feels like the ball is moved without much intensity. You see few hard challenges. Once you start playing men's games you have to learn quickly."

International Recognition

He has demonstrated that maturation for club and country, performing well for his national side, who remain in contention for the World Cup next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has featured in the last several matches, including home and away games against the German national team. His former international manager, Galbraith's former international manager, offered the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he controls possession and his ability to spot a game-changing assist.

Early Days

This marks a remarkable path for the player from the neighborhood in Glengormley, just outside Belfast, who used to see his dad, the elder Galbraith, also a central player, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Manchester United Experience

His sole appearance for the Red Devils came in the away trip in 2019, a European competition trip to the host city, where they played on an synthetic surface and the arena covering was closed owing to temperatures of freezing cold. "It was a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he comments, chuckling. "The days leading up, myself and quite a few of the young lads worked out jointly, so that assisted our preparation. Just to join the main group and get a couple of minutes at the end was unbelievable."

Leaving United

What was the challenge was it to leave United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged 16? "This turned out quite easy, because I arrived at the moment where I realized I wasn't going to make it at the senior squad. I'm very appreciative for the time I spent there but it got to the point where I thought I required a fresh start, drop down the leagues and play first-team games. Now I'm steadily working my way back up."

New Environment

It is mid-afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has a commitment at late afternoon: a road rules assessment, another step towards getting on the road. Until recently to Sketty, the mid-twenties player was a frequent passenger in Swansea's dubbed player transport, a minibus driven by academy staff, the transport team, which shuttles players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"My companions include the Portuguese player, the Brazilian, Malick Yalcouyé – Melker Widell used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's pleasant to spend time with the lads but I'm aiming to be the following person out of the minibus and driving. Franco is known for his humor; he's constantly causing mischief."

Fan Interactions

During his time at Orient, Galbraith would blend in with supporters on public transport after beginning his trip at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
