Cars in German Town Discovered Covered with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Police reported they were notified by a man who found a vehicle in Hanau smeared with red-colored liquid

Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.

Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.

The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Officers then discovered many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Police state early analysis indicate the substance was most likely human blood.

"There is still no lead as to where it came from; authorities are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they added.

Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the public for information.

A senior official commented the attack made him stunned and had to be solved rapidly.

"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, referring to the death of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on people of immigrant origin in 2020.
